My friend Eric competed in the Aquaphor New York City Triathlon on Sunday, so on Saturday night I helped him carbo-load for the event. He just moved into a new apartment (not in Brooklyn – to his detriment, obviously); as a housewarming gift I asked him to select my seventeenth target.
Cypress Hills is way out in northeast Brooklyn on the Queens border. I’ll attempt to refine my map’s boundaries after my trip.
Those who have been following me over the past four weeks might have noticed a strange pattern: Tompkins Park North (16) is a sub-neighborhood of Bed-Stuy (14), and Highland Park (15) is a sub-neighborhood of Cypress Hills (17).
This can happen when you pick things randomly.
Another thing that can (and did) happen: after 17 weeks, I’ve yet to pick any of the 21 southernmost neighborhoods on my map. The probability that this would occur: 0.273%. That’s around 1 in 365. (The odds I break this streak next week are exactly one in three.)
