Joy, head of the Brooklyn Collection, picked my next destination. (And then she helped me with my research.)
Now synonymous with IKEA and Fairway, Red Hook was long known as a gritty industrial area. Despite the dearth of public transit (the B61 is the only service available) the area is becoming popular with property-hunters.
As a runner, I’m familiar with the Red Hook track. I’m looking forward to a more leisurely trip this week.
Funny story: when Joy reached into the hat, the first card she pulled out was … Crown Heights. I had forgotten to take it out of the mix.
Ah! I love Red Hook – one of the most unassuming Brooklyn neighborhoods. And easy parking too!
Next time you’re in Red Hook on a Saturday night check out Sonny’s for whiskey and bluegrass jam sessions.
