Week thirty-one: Prospect Heights

All right, back on track at The Weekly Nabe. You know what they say about letting something go: if it’s meant to be, it’ll come back. I’ve always thought that line was a load of crap.

To unveil my next neighborhood, we have to hop in the WABAC Machine to December 2012. It was over two months ago that I attended the Industry City Distillery launch party for their No. 3 vodka, when my friend Max – who, with his business partners, was since named a member of the Forbes 30 Under 30 – made a selection.

Not drinking any vodka hot toddies. Nosirree.

Ah, Prospect Heights: just across Flatbush Avenue from my apartment, and host to a number of controversies surrounding the construction of Barclays Center. This should be fun.

I’m quite familiar with the neighborhood’s main strip, Vanderbilt Avenue, now a hotbed of restaurant and bar activity; several popular spots have opened here in the past few years. It’s also the quickest bike route between Prospect Park and the Navy Yard, two places near and dear to my heart.

I look forward to learning a bit more about this area’s history – something dominated by Forest City Ratner over the past decade or so.
